The International multidisciplinary student-PhD student scientific conference “(R)evolutions: transformation in post-Soviet republics” will take place on 13th-14th May 2014 in the Auditorium Maximum UJ at Krupnicza st. 33, Kraków. The conference is organized by Russian Studies Students’ Scientific Association of the Jagiellonian University, in cooperation with the Institute of Eastern Initiatives and the Eastern Perspective
The present situation in post-Soviet republics is a popular subject for scholars, especially in the perspective of the more than two decades since the fall of the Soviet Union. The dynamics of transformations in the former Soviet republics are constantly providing us with new material for research while making previous studies outdated. Juxtaposing such diverse countries as Estonia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan in the context of the reshaping of the common Soviet heritage gives the researcher a greatly absorbing comparative perspective. The deliberations can touch upon political, cultural and philosophical questions. The way in which those transformations take place is just as much a compelling problem: from evolution to stagnation, to actual revolutions. One has to remember that political change never occurs in a cultural vacuum. The sudden collapse of the Soviet reality has resulted in an erosion of constitutive societal values, which each of the emergent countries had to counter. Change in such cultural areas as religion, literature and visual arts are equally important indicators of transformation in the post-Soviet world as political and economical change. Taking the above into account, we would like to invite both Polish and international researchers to present the results of their studies. The conference will be focused upon politics, economy, culture, art and religion of post-Soviet states after 1991.
